Dear IRIS Friends,
Many of you know that I was victimized as a child. I remember the day when I had to report to DC police and detectives. Let me tell you one thing: it wasn’t easy. I felt like I was “telling” on my parents, sharing my dark little secret to strangers, and ruining my life. This shame carried on with me for quite some time because I had relatives who hated me for reporting my mother and father to the authorities. I remember being in a courtroom describing in detail how I was injured, wishing I could’ve kept it all to myself. I was a foster child with an attorney who only wanted love, protection, and acceptance from her parents... not emotional and physical scars.
